Kim Hafenscher brings more than ten years of senior living expertise to the Senior Care Authority Denver Metro team. Throughout her career, she has supported more than 1,000 families in making empowered decisions about the safety, well-being and care of their loved ones.
After working with two of the nation’s top senior living providers, Kim committed the second phase of her career to helping families find the best possible environment for their loved ones as an elder care consultant, specializing in senior living placement. Today, she is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and Certified Senior Advisor candidate, representing nearly 400 senior living communities throughout the Denver metro area.
Kim’s passion for elder care started at a young age. Growing up in a multigenerational home, her teen years were devoted to caring for her grandmother who had Multiple Sclerosis. Because her family didn’t have the financial resources for professional home care or assisted living, they pulled together to provide the most loving and dignified life they could for their grandmother. During that time, Kim watched own her mother struggle to balance a household, raise three children, work full-time, and try to maintain some level of personal care, which created endless empathy for family caregivers, especially those in the “sandwich generation.”
Kim’s expert knowledge of the industry, deep compassion for families in crisis, and vast resource network are the reasons families lean on her as they navigate difficult family conversations and decisions. She works tirelessly to educate families quickly and thoroughly, allowing them to be more confident in their decision-making throughout the elder care journey.
Kim is the proud mother of three adult daughters who are the light of her life.
Kelly O’Connor is an award-winning elder care consultant and founder of Senior Care Authority, Denver Metro. Together with the Denver team, they dedicate a combined 25+ years of experience to those facing the aging or illness of a loved one. Her national practice includes a network of qualified professionals equally committed to quality care, life enrichment, community engagement, safety and dignity for elders.
Kelly knows exactly what it’s like to support a loved one during a time of transition or crisis. For most of her 20s, Kelly cared for older and ailing family members. At a young age, she held the responsibility of making critical healthcare and estate decisions during a time of crisis. She vowed that one day she would help other families through the vast complexities of the elder care journey.
While she had a successful career as a corporate communications director in the fashion industry in Los Angeles and New York, Kelly’s heart was calling her to contribute her talents and experiences in a larger, more meaningful way. She returned to graduate school, moved to Colorado, and started volunteering with various philanthropic organizations, including a local hospice in Denver. One day she received a surprise call that changed her life forever... a well-known senior industry professional said, “I have the perfect job for you.” The rest is history.
Kelly began a heartfelt second career in the senior living industry, specializing in moves and transitions; she has personally served more than 1,000 families in the last 10 years. She worked in almost every area of the field: independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, hospice and home care. She holds a master's degree in Spiritual Psychology and a Professional Advancement Certification in Gerontology. She also received her Certified Senior Advisor designation and is a Certified Eden Associate with the Eden Alternative, an international organization dedicated to transforming how nursing homes operate worldwide. In addition, she is a graduate of the Masterpiece Living Academy for Successful Aging and completed associate training through Naomi Feil’s Validation Training Institute. Kelly is a former board member of the Society for Certified Senior Advisors Denver Leaders Network, the Senior Coalitions, and is a founding member of the National Placement and Referral Alliance’s Denver Chapter. She is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and one of the first Certified Placement and Referral Specialists in the country. Contributing to her field nationally, she served on a task force to design the first certification program for senior living placement agents across the country. In 2017, she was honored with the Young Professional in Aging award for the state by the Colorado Gerontological Society, and in 2019, the Unsung Heroes Foundation’s Woman of the Year.
Kelly's dedication to elders and their families is paramount in her life. Alongside her work, Kelly makes time to sneak away with her handsome four-legged companion Buddy, exploring the trails, lakes and coffee shops in Denver and throughout Colorado.
SENIOR CARE AUTHORITY COMPANY HISTORY
The original Senior Care Authority was founded in 2009 by Frank and Michele Samson in Sonoma, California. They opened a local placement agency and learned everything there was to know about finding the right care situation for an older adult needing help with activities of daily living. In 2014, they added elder care consulting to their model and began franchising throughout the US and Canada. In 2015, Kelly O'Connor founded the Denver office and was joined in 2020 by Kim Hafenscher as president.
